Illinois Clean Coal Institute

The clean coal technologies in Illinois Institute is seeking Statements of Interest (SOI) for development clean coal projects that will lead to the increased utilization of Illinois coal in an environmentally acceptable manner and increases investing in crude oil. The processes or technologies to be used must be at a stage where a development project is likely to lead to commercialization of the technology. That is, the Clean Coal Technologies in Illinois must have been proven in laboratory and bench-scale experiments, an economic analysis must have been made that indicates success against competitive technologies, and reproducible data necessary to design and construct equipment for the development stage must be available.

Clean coal gasification enables biomass to be burnt very efficiently and in its most technologically advanced forms gasification can provide for carbon capture (carbon sequestration). This is the best way in reducing carbon emissions which can also successfully combat climate change. But, gasification has another use, other than energy production, and that is for the gas to be used as the starting point for the industrial/chemicals and refining industries, as a raw material in the place of oil.

As investing in crude oil prices rise, gasification using low grade, and thus much lower cost, raw material will become much more viable economically. During this process a carbonaceous food waste feedstock material is heated in a reducing atmosphere and this, with the high temperatures present, very successfully destroys pretty much all vectors of disease.

Gasification is the thermal decomposition of organic material at elevated temperatures in an oxygen restricted environment. The process, which requires an initial heat supply to get underway, produces a mixture of combustible gases (primarily methane, complex hydrocarbons, hydrogen and carbon monoxide) called 'syngas'. Syngas can be stored or combusted as it is produced, giving the process a high degree of flexibility. The syngas thus produced can be converted into liquid fuel on a catalytic reaction.

Clean Coal Technology is a vital to the fight against global warming. Companies are more likely to spend money on natural gas–powered plants, which are cheap to build but relatively expensive to operate because of the cost of the fuel needed to run them. And leading members of the world coal industry are working to promote screen trading of standardized coal products to reduce these Coal Development Costs.

Clean Coal Technology has patented carbon dioxide separation technology. If successful, the technology will form the basis of a worldwide license agreement. And it assists in repositioning the use of coal as a viable long term source of power generation and liquefaction by managing Coal Development Costs. So World Coal like Clean Coal Technologies evaluation is started with CO2 separation.
